Faustina the first, Empress and deity of Rome #52ancestors

Annia Galeria Faustina, more familiarly referred to as Faustina I (Latin: Faustina Major; born on September 21, in about 100; died in October or November of 140[1]), was a Roman Empress and wife of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius....

Faustina was the only known daughter of consul and prefect Marcus Annius Verus and Rupilia Faustina. Her brothers were consul Marcus Annius Liboand praetor Marcus Annius Verus. Her maternal aunts were Roman Empress Vibia Sabina and Matidia Minor. Her paternal grandfather had the same name as her father and her maternal grandparents were Salonina Matidia(niece of Roman Emperor Trajan) and suffect consul Lucius Scribonius Libo Rupilius Frugi Bonus. Faustina was born and raised in Rome.
As a private citizen, she married Antoninus Pius between 110 and 115. Faustina and Antoninus had a very happy marriage. Faustina bore Antoninus four children, two sons and two daughters. They were:
  • Marcus Aurelius Fulvius Antoninus (died before 138); his sepulchral inscription has been found at the Mausoleum of Hadrian in Rome.
  • Marcus Galerius Aurelius Antoninus (died before 138); his sepulchral inscription has been found at the Mausoleum of Hadrian in Rome. His name appears on a Greek Imperial coin.
  • Aurelia Fadilla (died in 135); she married Aelius Lamia Silvanus or Syllanus. She appears to have had no children with her husband and her sepulchral inscription has been found in Italy.
  • Annia Galeria Faustina Minor or Faustina the Younger (between 125-130-175), a future Roman Empress; she married her maternal cousin, future Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. She was the only child who survived to adulthood.

On July 10, 138, her uncle, Emperor Hadrian, died and her husband became the new emperor, as Antoninus was Hadrian's adopted son and heir. Faustina became Roman Empress and the Senate accorded her the title of Augusta. As empress, Faustina was well respected and was renowned for her beauty and wisdom. The Historia Augusta criticized her as having "excessive frankness" and "levity". Throughout her life, as a private citizen and as empress, Faustina was involved in assisting charities for the poor and sponsoring and assisting in the education of Roman children, particularly girls.

When Faustina died in 140, Antoninus was devastated and took several steps to honor her memory. He deified her (her apotheosis was portrayed on an honorary column) and had the Temple of Faustina built in theRoman Forum. He also ordered various coins with her portrait struck, inscribed DIVA FAVSTINA ("Divine Faustina") and elaborately decorated. Antoninus also established a charity called Puellae Faustinianae ("Girls of Faustina") to assist orphaned Roman girls and created a new alimenta(see Grain supply to the city of Rome).
In 2008, archaeologists digging at the ancient site of Sagalassos inTurkey discovered a colossal marble head which is believed to be that of Faustina.[3]
Annia Galeria Faustina Major, Roman Empress is my 43rd great grandmother.

Ptolemy I, Pharoah of Egypt and half-brother of Alexander the Great #52ancestors

Greek: Πτολεμαῖος
Ptolemy the first was the son of Philip the second and brother of Alexander the Great. He was also the ancestor of Cleopatra, the last queen of Egypt, and the founder of the Ptolemaic dynasty....

Son of Phillip II "The One Eye", King of Macedonia and Arsinoe I

Father of Ptolemy II Philadelphos, Pharoah of EgyptArsinoe II;PhiloteraLeontiscusLagusEirenePtolemaisArgaeus;AntigoneLysandraMeleager and Ptolemy Keraunos, King of Macedonia
Half brother of EuropaCaranusCynaneThessalonica of MacedoniaCleopatra, Princess of MacedoniaAlexander 'the Great', King of MacedoniaPhilip III, King of MacedonMenelaus of Egypt and Menelaus, King of Macedonia.

Ptolemy I Soter I (Ancient GreekΠτολεμαῖος ΣωτήρPtolemaĩos Sōtḗr, i.e. Ptolemy (pronounced /ˈtɒləmi/) the Savior), also known as Ptolemy Lagides,[1] c. 367 BC – c. 283 BC, was a Greek Macedonian general under Alexander the Great, who became ruler of Egypt (323–283 BC) and founder of both the Ptolemaic Kingdom and the Ptolemaic Dynasty. In 305/4 BC he demanded the title ofpharaoh.
His mother was Arsinoe of Macedon, and, while his father is unknown, ancient sources variously describe him either as the son of Lagus, a Greek Macedonian nobleman, or as an illegitimate son of Philip II of Macedon (which, if true, would have made Ptolemy the half-brother of Alexander), but it is possible that this is a later myth fabricated to glorify the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Ptolemy was one of Alexander's most trusted generals, and was among the seven somatophylakes (bodyguards) attached to his person. He was a few years older than Alexander, and had been his intimate friend since childhood.

Magnus Maximus, Emperor of the Western Roman Empire #52ancestors

Magnus Maximus (Latin: Flavius Magnus Maximus Augustus) (ca. 335 – August 28, 388), also known as Maximianus and Macsen Wledig in Welsh, was Western Roman Emperor from 383 to 388. As commander of Britain, he usurped the throne against Emperor Gratian in 383. However, through negotiation with Theodosius I the following year he was made emperor in Britannia and Gaul - while Gratian's brother Valentinian II retained Italy, Pannonia, Hispania, and Africa. Nevertheless Maximus' ambitions led him to invade Italy in 387, leading to his defeat by Theodosius at the Battle of the Save in 388. His death marked the end of real imperial activity in northern Gaul and Britain. After Maximus, no significant Roman emperor (ignoring shadowy and short-lived usurpers) ever went north of Lyons again.

Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor and Stoic Philosopher #52ancestors

The great, great grandfather of Constantine the Great and the nephew of Faustina the first.

Marcus Aurelius (Latin: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus April 26, 121 CE. – March 17, 180 CE.), was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 CE. He ruled with Lucius Verus as co-emperor from 161 until Verus' death in 169. He was the last of the "Five Good Emperors", and is also considered one of the most important members of the Stoic philosophers. During his reign, the Empire defeated a revitalized Parthian Empire; Aurelius' general Avidius Cassius sacked the capital Ctesiphon in 164. Aurelius fought the Marcomanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians with success during the Marcomannic Wars, but the threat of the Germanic tribes began to represent a troubling reality for the Empire. A revolt in the East led by Avidius Cassius failed to gain momentum and was suppressed immediately.
Marcus Aurelius' Stoic tome Meditations, written in Greek while on campaign between 170 and 180, is still revered as a literary monument to a philosophy of service and duty, describing how to find and preserve equanimity in the midst of conflict by following nature as a source of guidance and inspiration.

Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor is my 51st great grandfather.

Wife of Marcus Antonius Creticus, PraetorMarcus Atius Balbusand Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus
Mother of Atia Balba PrimaAtia Balba Caesonia and Atia Balba Tertia
Sister of Julia Caesaris Major and Gaius Julius Caesar, Roman Dictator

Julia is the name of two daughters of praetor Gaius Julius Caesar and Aurelia Cotta, the parents of dictator GaiusJulius Caesar. The sisters were born and raised in Rome.
The elder of the two is sometimes called Julia Major (Major Latin for the elder) by historians (but she should not be confused with Julia the Elder, daughter of Emperor Augustus). Likewise, the younger is sometimes called Julia Minor, (Minor Latin for the younger) and should not be confused with Julia the Younger, Augustus' first granddaughter.

Julia Caesaris (101 BC-51 BC) was the second sister of Julius Caesar. She married Marcus Atius Balbus, a praetor and commissioner who came from a senatorial family of plebeian status. Julia bore him three daughters:
