THE WASHINGTONS, VOLUME 9, WASHINGTONS, WRIGHTS, GRANTS, KINGS, AND NICHOLS

Recently found a new source for my Wright and Washington lines and wanted to share it here.
THE WASHINGTONS, VOLUME 9 has a rundown of my ancestry from Colonel John Washington to my grandpa Rufus S. Nichols and his siblings.

Rufus is the son of James Ira Nichols and Teresa Marcella King of Franklin County, Virginia. Tressie is a direct descendant of George Washington's immigrant great grandfather John Washington who is a descendant of at least one Magna Charta Baron and is a founder of Jamestown and therefore a patriot of the American Revolution and a founder and patriot of the United States of America. Pretty sure he is listed in the SAR directory as well.

John Washington married Ann Pope and had a daughter Ann who married Major Francis Wright. Ann and Frank had a son named John Wright who is my seventh great grandfather.

John married Dorothy Aubrey according to sources and had my sixth great grandfather Captain John Wright, Junior, who married Elizabeth Bronaugh and had my fifth great grandfather Captain William Wright, Senior, who was a blacksmith.

William married Mary Grant who was the mother of my fourth great grandfather, James G Wright, Senior. James married Margaret Young who was also known as Peggy and was the father of Margaret "Peggy" Wright, named after her mother, obviously.

Peggy married Anthony King, Junior, and was the mother of Michael O King who married Louisa Catherine Aldridge.

Louisa was the daughter of Mary "Polly" Gibson and the mother of Teresa Marcella King, my great grandmother.

This line is listed in the book from William Wright to Rufus and is accepted as fact by the National Society of  the Washington Family Descendants.

UPDATE FOR ALL MY BOURNE COUSINS

Looks like we have a shared LEGACY.... 

So if you click on the BOURNE tag in the post you get all the Bourne posts in the blog. But you knew that. So you probably know that I finally broke through that wall and found James Emmett Bournes parents parents... 

JAMES senior was born about 1800 and is called the late bloomer as he was about 77 when he married a much younger Matilda Stephenson and started a family. James was the son of Stephen Bourne and Rosamond Mallory and Stephen Jr was the son of Stephen Bourne and Hannah. Think she was a MINITREE but not sure. 

Stephen jr was a Sgt in the Revolution, promoted by General Washington... 

Stephen Sr was the son of William and his second wife, do not know her name... but Williams first wife was NANCY VAUGHAN.... who was not the mother of STEPHEN SR.... some confusion in the research on that... 

WILLIAM JR. was the son of WILLIAM SR. and his first wife... name unknown... but was raised by William and his second wife MARY POLLY VAUGHAN who was not Juniors mother... They married in 1711 long after William and his brother Stephen's births...

36. Anthony King III and 37. Margaret Wright #52ancestors

Legend says that Anthony King, the third, was born in Virginia, the son of Anthony King, Jr. of New Jersey. Anthony married Margaret Wright AKA Peggy and was the father of Michael O. King.

Anthony Junior married Dorces or Dorcas and was the son of Anthony King, Sr. and Flora McClane. Anthony was a descendant of Harmanus King who came to New Jersey from Holland. The King family goes back to Germany where they were known as Koenig, which is German for King.

Anthony Sr. was the son of John King and Elizabeth Woodward who were born around 1678 ish. Harmanus King was born in 1652.

Margaret Wright was the daughter of James Wright and Margaret Young. James was the son of William Wright and Mary Grant. William was born about 1729 to John Wright, Jr. and Elizabeth Bronaugh. John Jr. is the grandson of Major Francis Wright and Anne Washington and the great grandson of Colonel John Washington, George's great grandfather.

Anthony King, III is my third great grandfather and number 36 on my ancestor list.

George Washington, 1st President of the USA is John de Washington's 10th great grandson.    

John de Washington, Sr. was born c. 1346 Tewitfield, Warton, Lancashire, England and died about 1408. He is a direct ancestor of George Washington.

  John de Washington was the son of Robert de Washington and Agnes de Gentyl.1 He married, firstly, Eleanor Garnet in 1363.1 He married, secondly,Joan de Croft, daughter of John de Croft, in 1382.1 He died in 1407/8.1

John Washington of York Cave & Mattox Creek was born Feb 1632 in Purleigh Parish, Essex County, England and died in 1677 in Bridge Creek, Westmoreland Co., VA.

2.  1 Dec 1658 in Westmoreland Co., VA to Anne Pope.  Anne was born in 1635 in St. Mary, MD and died in 1668 in Bridge Creek, Westmoreland Co., VA., daughter of plantation owner Nathaniel Pope. Their wedding gift from Pope consisted of 700 acres on Mattox Creek in Westmoreland County of Virginia's Northern Neck.  5 children.. 
3. about 1670 to Anne [maiden name unknown, though often given as Gerrard], the widow of Walter Brodhurst and Henry Brett. No children.
4. 10 May 1676 to Frances Gerrard, Anne's sister and widow of Francis Appleton. (1)  No children.

George Washington, General, Commander in Chief, and 1st President of the USA

George Washington's Birthday is recognized this month on the 17th and so I thought maybe I would do a blog about him. Nothing fancy, just a quick note to remember the first POTUS.

George Washington (February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799) served as the first President of the United States of America (1789–1797), and led the Continental Army to victory over the Kingdom of Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).

The Continental Congress appointed Washington commander-in-chief of the American revolutionary forces in 1775. The following year, he forced the British out of Boston, lost New York City, and crossed the Delaware River in New Jersey, defeating the surprised enemy units later that year. As a result of his strategy, Revolutionary forces captured the two main British combat armies at Saratoga and Yorktown. Negotiating with Congress, the colonial states, and French allies, he held together a tenuous army and a fragile nation amid the threats of disintegration and failure. Following the end of the war in 1783, Washington retired to his plantation at Mount Vernon, prompting an incredulous King George III to state, "If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world."  

George's grandfather is the brother of Anne Minor Wright, my 8th great grandmother, and George's great aunt....

Anne Wright was the daughter of Col. John Washington and Ann Pope Washington. Anne married Francis Wright about 1682 in Virginia. She died before the date of the will of her brother Capt. Anne (Washington) Wright had died before the date of his will, March 11, 1697-8, hence no bequest to her, and hence the reference of the testator to being buried by the side of my Father and Mother & neare my Brother and Sisters, in the family burying ground on the original Washington estate near Pope's Creek in Washington parish, Westmoreland, where now stands the tall granite shaft erected by an act of Congress. The death of Anne (Washington)Wright, when aged under thirty-eight, is also established the deed of sale, executed by her only son John Wright and his father, of land she had inherited from her father Col. Daughter, Anne, supposed to be Francis Wright’s daughter by his second wife, Martha Cox, whom he married about 1709.
