54/55 David Johnson and Deborah #FamilyHistoryFriday 1/12

Its Family History Friday again and today I will be continuing the Ancestor List Challenge I started in 2014. Also, this will be the 1st of 12 ancestors in 12 months for 2015.

Number 54 and 55 on my ancestor list is David Johnson and his wife Deborah...

David Johnson is the father of Margaret Elizabeth Johnson who married Robert Lee Linville. David's wife is believed to be named Deborah and some speculate her maiden name to be Shinall or Chenault. Who were his parents? Who were his wife's parents? Who knows? Sometimes you just hit a wall and crash. C'est la genealogy!

David and Deborah probably lived in Surry county, NC. They are my 6th generation great-great-great grandparents

52. MOSES LINVILLE and 53. HENRIETTA WHITE #52ancestors

Number 52 on my ancestor list is Moses Linville, who was the father of Robert Lee Linville. Moses married Henrietta White, the daughter of John White and Elizabeth Callahan in Surry County, NC. Their son Robert married Margaret Elizabeth Johnson in Surry County as well.

Henrietta White (abt. 1814-bef. 1870) m. Moses Linville (1802-1881) (lived on Tom's Creek in Surry County)

27. Margaret Elizabeth Johnson Linville #52ancestors

Margaret Elizabeth Johnson m. Robert Lee Linville in Surry County, NC. They were the parents of my great grandmother, Ida Mae Linville.  According to Find A Grave her name may have been Martha...

It is unclear who her parents were, but her father's name is given as David Johnson. The Linvilles of North Carolina were close friends of the Boones and Robert's grandmother Hannah Morgan Linville was the sister of Daniel Boone's mother, Sarah Morgan Boone.  

Sarah's son George married the daughter of William D. Linville, the founder of Tanglewood Park in North Carolina.  

Ida Mae was the mother of ten children, one of whom was my grandfather.

Robert Lee Linville is my second great grandfather. He was the son of Moses Linville and Henrietta White. He married Margaret Johnson in Surry County, NC.

The Linvilles were close friends of the Boones and lived nearby in NC. Robert's grandmother Hannah Scarlett Morgan Linville was the sister of Sarah Morgan Boone who was Daniel's mother.

Daniel's brother George married Robert's great uncle William's daughter Ann who was called Nancy. Ann was the mother of William Linville Boone and John Linville Boone. Ann's father, William D. Linville was the original owner of Tanglewood Park.

"Cade" AKA Cajabeth White #52ancestors

This post is about my ancestor John White's father Cadbreth AKA Cade who was also known as Cajabeth and many other variations of his name. The letter comes from a cousin who is researching the White line that John is in. I recently got this letter in my inbox and thought I would share it with you here....

The following was sent via the private messaging system on WikiTree.com.

Raymond, John White of Surry Co was my 4th great grandfather. I have been collaborating with several other descendants over the past few years in an effort to determine his lineage. We've made some progress. I feel very confident that his father was a man named Cajabeth White m. Frances LNU. He had an elder brother named Robert m. Ann Bush. Cajabeth lived for many years in Bute (later Warren) Co, NC. The earliest known record of him is a 1766 tax list, when he was living in the household of his brother, William. Cajabeth moved briefly to Mecklenburg Co, VA in 1795 before moving on to Rockingham Co, NC. He and his wife appear to have died in 1798, the year Cajabeth made out his will. John may have moved briefly to Mecklenburg Co as well, but by 1800 was living in Caswell Co. He and his family migrated to Surry Co around 1815, but can't be found in the census records until 1830. He was named in the will of John Seagroves as the latter's nephew. Seagroves was the bondsman for the marriage bond of Henrietta White. I have taken the Y-DNA test offered by Family Tree. It showed a close match to men with the surname West and no matches to men with the surname White. (My Y-DNA matches that of my uncle, so I'm pretty sure I'm in the right family.) A distant White cousin is taking the test now in an effort to see if his Y-DNA also matches the Wests. With his results I hope to be able to identify when in genealogical time this paternity cross-over may have happened. I would be happy to share my tree with you. We have collected quite a few documents about Cajabeth White. Please let me know if you are interested.

Margaret Johnson Linville #WednesdaysWall

This week's wall is Margaret Elizabeth Johnson from North Carolina. Her father's name is probably David Johnson and her mother's name may be Deborah Shinall, but I need proof of that.

Margaret married Robert Lee Linville and she is my 2nd great grandmother.

Private John King, Revolutionary Soldier #52ancestors

John King, the Revolutionary soldier, volunteered for service to his country, in the cause of freedom, at White Plains, Maryland, for the term of three years 1778-1781. He served as a private under the command of Captain Stull of the Regiment commanded by Colonel Gunby, in the Maryland line from April 1778-April 1781. He fought in the Battles of Ruddy Fork, Alamance and Guilfod in the state of North Carolina. Was discharged from duty in Canaden, South Carolina, April 1781, When he arrived in Virginia is uncertain.

The above military record is contrary to a record that has previously been published. However, the above record is the one recieved from the Military Archives, Washington, DC., The above record was approved by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution who have access to Military Archives records.

In 1818 the Revolutionary Claims Act was enacted by U.S. Congress providing a pension to Revolutionary soldiers. John King did not agree to apply for pension at this time. He felt he would be asking for and recieving charity of which he was opposed. He fought for freedom and independence not for monetary gain.

By 1829 John King was experiencing some mifortune and realized he would come to the point of declining health. He appeared before the court in Montgomery County, Virginia, in September, 1829, with his sworn statement of service, record of property ownership and letters of recommendation from his neighbors, Andrew Lewis, Jonathon Conner, and son-in-law, Stephen Burnett. Andrew Lewis stated he knew personally that Jong King had fought bravely in the battles he mentioned. He was in his neighbor, a man of good character, truthful and honest. However he had experienced financial difficulty.

In June, 1832, John King signed the following statement:

Known all men by these present, that I, John King, of the County of Floyd, Revolutionary Pensioner of the United States, do hereby constitutes and appoint Robert Craig, my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name, to receive from the Agent of the United States for paying pensions in Washington City, DC, my pensions from fourth day of March, 1831., to the fourth of March 1832.

Witness my Hand and Seal, this the 18'th day of June, 1832.
