Brick Wall Broken... Film at 11. Wait a minute... I dont have a film...
Anyway... Remember the brick wall I told you about a long time ago? The parents of Milly Vaughan? Well, thanks to a couple Ancestry trees, I found them. Now, don't tell me that the trees are not totally reliable... I know that. I always just rely on them for leads only. However, there it was.
Let me start at 1. My info was somewhat sketchy on Milly Vaughan and Emmett Bourne, and it was nothing but dead ends at first. While the first censuses I found on them said his name was William E. Bourne, and more reliable sources said his name was Emmett, I considered the possibility that his name may be wrong on some documents, so I changed his name on Ancestry to Emmett and then it happened. I got a leaf, er, hint. and suddenly, the walls fell down and I found some trees that listed their parents at last....
James Emmett Bourne was born on June 13, 1881, in Grayson County, Virginia, the child of JAMES BOURNE and M. STEVENSON. He married Amelia Ann Vaughan on June 19, 1901, in Wythe County, Virginia. They had 11 children during their marriage. He died on March 24, 1964, in Virginia, at the age of 82, and was buried in Cripple Creek, Virginia.
James was about 35 when World War One started and he registered for the Old Man's Draft for World War Two in 1942.
When Amelia Ann Vaughan was born on September 11, 1881, in Wythe County, Virginia, her father, WILLIAM VAUGHAN, was 60 and her mother, ELIZABETH F. PINION, was 30. She married James Emmett Bourne on June 19, 1901, in Wythe County, Virginia. They had 11 children during their marriage. She died on February 25, 1924, at the age of 42.
1910 CENSUS
AMELIA was called Melia in the 1910 census and my great grandma Vennie was called Minnie. Censuses are often a little wrong, but this census led me to believe his name was William and searches for William and Melia were fruitless. An Ancestry tree listed Milly as Amelia, a name I had suspected to be her real name all along.
Amelia Vaughan married J. E. Bourne in 1901.
