The family of Jacob Beckelhimer...
Guess who's back? or dont guess. Its me. Wanted to update my search results on the family tree.
*First of all, some of my previous theories were wrong. but you must always take research with a grain of salt or something like that.
1. john nichols born 1814 in Bedford county, Va. is the son of Elisha Nichols and his second wife, Nancy Payne. Elisha may have had a kid with his first wife. idk. john may have been named Ezekiel. at least one source says his name was Ezekiel and that may be why he named a son Ezekiel. John married Martha Ann Jones who was the daughter of Ezekiel Samuel Jones, so the son may have been named after his grandpa or maybe his father, if John was named ezekiel as well.
2. Olivia King was the daughter of John King jr. and Sarah Beckelheimer and she had a sister named Charlotte. Their mother and father died while they were young apparently and they went to live with their grandfather. Olivia or Olive married Leroy G Bartlett.
3. The Beckelheimers came from Germany. sometimes called Picklesimers or Becklehymers or other forms of the name. My German roots can be a little confusing.
4. i have been busy with other projects and have not had much time for blogging lately, but there you go.

the unknown parents of John Ezekiel Nichols are definitely related to Lt. John Nichols and his grandfather Simon Nicholls by DNA , but who are they?
at this point it looks like Lt. John's son, Elisha Nichols may be the father, but there is no sources to prove that.
at first, I thought Johns father was Archibald but there is no connection to him at all. just a nagging hunch. there is a lot of documentation to show that arch never had a son named john, but maybe he was.
you would think that he would have named a son after his father, but I cannot find a single one.
Archibald may have married Polly Updike if his first wife died before 1819, but it is unclear if that was the case. the Updike family says that she married a John Nichols, but the marriage records say Archibald. maybe she married a John Archibald Nichols, that's what I call him any way.
also, it seems like John and Polly moved to WV and may have had a son named john m. Nichols who married Sarah Adeline Richardson. well if arch married Polly in 19 after the death of Judith. assuming she died by then. it is unlikely he would not have taken his children with him.
a lot of Qs and not enough As. but it looks at this point like the father of my John Ezekiel Nichols is probably Elisha. Elisha had children before 1814 so he may be the father of john e... I hope. all these wild goose chase are annoying.
I know for sure that John e and John m Nichols are two different people as they were in different states in the same census, but as I don't know for sure if arch married Polly, I can't say for sure that he is not the father of john m Nichols. I don't think he married Polly tho, because she may have married a John and arch had a brother named john so it is unlikely.
another point to bring up is although arch apparently moved to WV, Elisha stayed in Bedford county, which makes him more likely to be John Es father. as John E was in Franklin county in 1860 with his family.
and one more point, it seems that a man named Elisha just might have a son named john Ezekiel. just a thought. and any way most of his brothers had Johns except apparently Archibald.
finally found the parents of Elizabeth Prindle Jones thanks to family search.
elizabeth prindle married Ezekiel Jones. we knew that long ago. but now her parents have been found and outed at family search. yay.
elizabeth is the daughter of William Prindle and Barbara Cooksey, daughter of shadrach Cooksey. sources prove that Barbara Cooksey and not Margaret Holden is the mother of Elizabeth. my previous Intel was faulty, and althought I spent some time on the Holden line, it was just a wild goose chase. there was no documents to connect Margaret Holden to Elizabeth Prindle. although Margaret may have married a William Prindle, she apparently didn't marry Elizabeth's father.

still no luck finding a connection between lt. john nichols b. 1720 MD - lt. john - and john ezekiel nichols b. 1814 bedford, va.
i thought at first that maybe arch was the father, but there are no sources to back that up. john jr. had a son named john James Nichols but he moved to tenn. jesse had a son named john field nichols but he also was in tenn. it seems the only one of lt. john's sons that may be the father is elisha nichols and there is almost no sources for him either. it seems that elisha married the daughter of his uncle flayl jr., but very little is known beyond that. he had a son named elisha christopher and a daughter, but there are no connections to john 1814. elisha could be the father of john but who knows? maybe. maybe not. how can someone live his whole life and never be recorded in anything.
the one thing for sure about john ezekiel nichols is that he is not john m nichols who married sarah richardson. those two johns are in different states in 1860 with children. where was john e between 1814 and 1860??? inquiring minds want to know....
my family mystery. my brick wall is still unbroken. my invisible ancestor and his unknown parents. although DNA says for sure that my bloodline is the same as Lt. John Nichols, it's still unclear how we connect.
pretty sure at this point that Elisha may be the missing link in this inquiry, but still no sources.(((
I believe my 4th GG Rosamond Mallory is the daughter of Roger Mallory and Sarah Smith and I'll tell you why... Rosa married Stephen Bourne and his sister Elizabeth Bourne married George H Mallory. Usually when two siblings marry people with the same surnames they are related. So I think Rosamond Mallory is probably George's sister... or at least a relative of his. If Rosa is the sister of George then her parents are the same as his. Roger Mallory iv and Sarah Smith. Prove me wrong.... you can't? neither can I. As Roger Mallory's family is definitely related, it is highly likely that Rosa is the daughter of Roger Mallory and Sarah Smith so although I cannot confirm these findings, I cannot deny them either.
Lord Malet of Graville, Norman Baron and Sheriff of York is my 27th great grandfather through Col. John Washington of Jamestown. He was also an ancestor of Lord William Malet, Magna Carta Baron. He fought in the Battle of Hastings with William the Conqueror.

Well it looks like my theory about Johnson Williams being the father of James is right, I found a DNA match on ancestry that appears to be a cousin through Johnson's father. it looks like Johnson is the son of Burrell Williams and Polly Morris and my DNA match is a descendant of Burrell. in theory this seems to confirm Burrell as the grandfather of James Henry williams and father of Johnson Williams.
while I know that James is my line without a doubt, Johnson now seems to be his father and Burrell his grandfather. hopefully some kind of records will appear some day some where some how to confirm this theory.
also, I have a theory on James' mother Malinda. and this one may be wrong. it may be very wrong or it may be right. it's almost too speculative to believe. but here goes, someone said that James was Blackfoot.... and maybe so... or maybe his skin was darker because his mother was Blackfoot. still have no records on her, but a theory of a cousin is that she was born Malinda Mills and she was a person of colour. really wish I could confirm that. apparently she may have been a native American or an African American. a record found says that she was black and she married a Williams later she married a Smith and lived out west. now if James was mixed then he could have had lighter skin toned kids right? I found a picture of his daughter and she looks pretty white so I don't know. if she was say a quarter native it may not look that way I guess.
so this cousin found a record some where apparently that Johnson did in fact marry a Malinda Mills and she later married a Smith. so the paper trail looks pretty solid. Malinda could have married Johnson to have James then left with him and remarried. while there is no record of a James williams in their home they in fact, did have a James Smith living there. could this Malinda smith be THE Malinda smith who was the mother of James??? sure could use a flux capacitor right now.
any way I am pretty confident about James father being Johnson Williams now and I know for sure his mother was Malinda smith. but was she Malinda Mills? that's the question. this line has been really difficult to find and I hope it's right now.
i know James was my ancestor and am pretty sure now that Johnson and Burrell are too. Malinda Mills? maybe so. but some sources would be nice to have for this theory.
So things were going ok at the start and then bam. hit the wall.... at James Williams.
James aka James Henry Williams married Clarissa Alice Richards who for some unknown reason has been aka Betty. Clarissa was the daughter of Christopher Richards and Nancy Adeline Moore. But who were James parents??? We dont know for sure.
However there are some probable candidates for the title... among them, Johnson Williams who married Judith Thornton in 1821 in Franklin County, Virginia. Shortly after the 1818 birth of James Williams.
Now according to sources, James was the son of Malinda Smith ( or was it Melinda???) and was born in Franklin county (1818). As I have said before he died in the sixties (1860s) in Richmond of a fever during the war. Some say he was a gambler, some say he was a Blackfoot. The census says he was a farmer. But could he have been the son of Johnson Williams of Franklin County??? Yes, he could have. You see, there is only one record mentioning Malinda (Melinda???) and after that she vanished. Can find nothing else about her. Did she die after giving birth? Did she keep out of the limelight so well that there is not even a death record for her? Questions! Questions!
Could Malinda have been the first wife of Johnson Williams?? Did she die before 1821? Inquisitive minds and Descendants want to know. And you would think after the war that more attention would have been paid to records of the time, considering how the union army torched so many valuable records.
Anyway all I have now is theories and facts to try and form a logical conclusion or two. And without the help of a Vulcan, I just do my best....
My theory is that Johnson Williams at some point may have married Malinda Smith (Melinda?) and had James in Franklin County in 1818... After that time, maybe Malinda had complications and passed away, leaving Johnson with a baby and no mother to care for him. Along comes Judith Thornton who marries him and raises his family along with her stepson from a previous marriage. There are plenty of records of Judith and Johnson but very little of Malinda....
Its just a theory at this point, but it explains a lot of unanswered questions... and maybe some day it can be proven. Also, it explains why a certain cousin has many Thornton DNA matches that could not be explained. So who knows, maybe its right. The purpose in research is to look for answers, is it not?
While Johnson had a few children with Judith, he was somewhat older than her, which suggests to me that maybe she was not wife number one. She was born about 1805 and married in 1821 according to my sources at least, and Johnson was older, born about 1792, the son of Polly... He could have married Malinda and had a family with her by 1812ish... And maybe more than one son....
Any way its a theory... and thats where answers come from.
Happy hunting.
