LOUISA CATHERINE OCTAVIA ALDRIDGE |
My great, great grandmother Louisa came from a broken home. Her mother Mary Gibson AKA Polly married Madison Martin Aldridge in Virginia in 1836. Sometime before 1846, Madison left Polly and moved west to West Virginia and then to Ohio with his second wife Mary Ann Chaffin. Louisa was born about 1850 in Virginia. Madison may have been her father but if so, he was living in Ohio at the time. When Louisa's brother Joseph Aldridge got married the name of his father on the marriage record was Green Aldridge. Green was probably the second husband of Polly Gibson and may have been the father of all of Polly's children.
Madison raised his new family in Ohio and went back to Virginia in the fifties to divorce Polly. Why so long? What happened to Polly after the separation? When did she re-marry? Its a mystery....
In the 1860 census, Louisa was living with the family of Robert Jackson King in Floyd. Robert was the son of Henry D. King and Sarah Ann Bartlett. Henry and Sarah were the parents of my great, great grandmother Nancy Rachel King, who married George Riley Bartlett. Robert was married to Margaret Jane King, who was the daughter of Anthony King and Peggy Wright. Anthony and Peggy were the parents of my great, great grandfather Michael O. King who married Louisa in 1866....
I have yet to find a record of Green Aldridge or Polly Gibson in the census records BUT its possible that they may be the actual parents of Louisa and her siblings.
