JOHN NICHOLS' son ARCH did not marry POLLY UPDIKE.
How do i know?
First let me explain YDNA... Basically, it means that I have the same YDNA as my father and his father and his father and so on... And because of that i can say with a certain degree of confidence that i am descended from JOHN NICHOLS of Bedford County Virginia who married MARTHA J PAYNE because he and i have the same YDNA.
Now records show that my great grandfather JIMs father, EZEKIELs father, JOHN NICHOLS was born in Bedford, Va. in 1814. And my sources say that JOHN and MARTHA PAYNE NICHOLS had a son named ARCHIBALD who had a son named JOHN about that time. But since his son JOHN was born in 1814, he would have been the son of Archibald's wife JUDITH HATCHER who was still alive and married to him at the time.
Now Judith did not die until April 4, 1819, which means that she was still very much married in January of that year when MARY POLLY UPDIKE married in Bedford County to another Archibald Nichols. Although marriage records reported her husbands name was Archibald, the Op-Dyck Genealogy called him John.
But since Arch was married to Judith in January he most likely did not marry Polly,... probably. Also, Polly's son, John M Nichols who married Sarah Adeline Richardson in Bedford County would not be the son of Judith. Judith's son John married Martha Ann Jones in Bedford County and was still there in 1860 for the census. My research shows that the family that moved to WV was not related to JOHN who married MARTHA J PAYNE.

The Archibald Nichols who died in West Virginia in 1860 was born in Maryland but who was his wife? We know that this was not Archibald G Nichols who fought in the war in 1864 and married Martha Jane Basham.

Arch the Quaker was married in November 1779 probably to Sarah Woolington..... since polly updike was born about 1781 she prob did not marry Archibald the Quaker. Also. the Arch born in 1769 MD who died in West Virginia was about ten then so probably not the Quaker.
